FINISHING TOUCHES

Once the tree is beautifully decorated it’s easy to forget about the space underneath. This is where we can create a really homely, warm feeling and have a little fun too! A tree skirt (for crafting ideas, see page 152), basket or a wrap that covers the base of the tree gives a much cleaner look. I have used all three in the past and I find it a struggle each year to decide which to use! If I have a smaller tree I will usually use a basket – there’s something so wonderfully sweet about a tree you can carry around. For our main tree I will either use a woven straw wrap with a softer small rug draped around the base to create a warmer texture, or I use my tree skirt.
